AUBURN, Ala. - On July 13, 2026, the Auburn Police Department arrested Kelan Chaffin Smith, 29, of Tallassee, Alabama, on the charge of theft of property first degree.

The arrest stems from an investigation into a reported theft from a business in the 300 block of Sanders Street on June 11, 2026. The business reported that a credit card was fraudulently used multiple times, resulting in a substantial financial loss. Following a thorough investigation, Kelan Smith was identified as the suspect.

Arrest warrants were obtained and Smith was taken into custody. Following his arrest, Smith was transported to the Lee County Jail where he is being held on a $5,000 bond.

All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
